Cory Monteith surprised Lea Michele at a June cover shoot

Lea Michele has been grieving Cory Monteith‘s death, but a photo shoot that occurred just five weeks before his death will always be remembered in the pages of Marie Claire Mexico.

Lea Michele’s August cover issue of Marie Claire Mexico could have been just like any other photo shoot, but it’s likely one she’ll remember forever. Michele’s boyfriend, Cory Monteith, decided to show up and surprise her.

The photo shoot took place at the Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills on June 7, only five weeks before Monteith’s death.

A photo shoot for a magazine like Marie Claire is always a big deal, but a cover is even more important.

“Lea Michele arrived early with her beauty team and her agent and was always professional, dedicated and her experience was obvious on the photo shoot but showed another side of her personality, softer and more innocent, on the interview when she got all excited with some questions, she said she loved Mexico so much,” Marie Claire Mexico and Latin America Editor-in-Chief Ariadne Grant told E! News. “That side was even more evident when Cory showed up almost at the end of the session, she was very happy about him being there.”

The cover shoot of course came with an interview, and Michele spoke about her and Monteith’s relationship, and working alongside her boyfriend on Glee.

“It’s more interesting having a relationship with someone you work with because we get more attention because we play boyfriend and girlfriend on the show and we are also in real life,” Michele said. “But he is the best person I know, he has made my life so incredible and I am so thankful for him and not only to have him as a partner but also as a co-worker.”

The editor added that Monteith seemed to be in a great mood the entire time, and added even more energy to the photo shoot.

“Cory showed up in great spirits and was very nice to everybody there; he even took pictures with whoever asked for it,” Grant said. “He just asked for a Coke and stayed there watching the shooting until it was done. They were both very nice and obviously happy and in love, we are very disrupted by the unfortunate and untimely events. Our thoughts are with Lea.”

Michele has been grieving since Monteith’s death on July 13 (later found to be caused by a mix of heroin and alcohol), but her words about her love for her boyfriend will forever be remembered in the issue of Marie Claire Mexico.

“It is important to have someone that supports you and encourage you, someone that makes you feel that you are unstoppable, that you can do anything in the world because you have him,” Michele explained.
