Amanda Bynes will remain under psych hold for now, but her parents received even more bad news today.
A judge has denied a bid by the parents of Amanda Bynes to gain conservatorship of the star after she suffered a mental breakdown and was put under psychiatric hold.
The catch: The denial is just for now. Here’s why.
Bynes’ doctors successfully argued to extend her original 72-hour psych hold another two weeks, saying they need more time to properly diagnose her and that releasing her would present a danger to herself and others, according to TMZ.
The judge agreed, so Bynes will stay put for at least another 14 days.

Her parents’ bid for conservatorship was denied because of that extension. The judge decided she can’t do much damage while she’s in the hospital, and that he wants a meeting with the troubled actress to help make his decision, as well as a recommendation from her doctors and her court-appointed lawyer — who, by the way, has already filed for an emergency hearing to spring her from the hospital.
The judge also wants to see the police file from the fire Bynes allegedly set in a stranger’s driveway.
A friend told RadarOnline that Bynes desperately needs help, and that she is in a far worse state than some other troubled stars who’ve been in similar situations.

“If she is not pinned down to [the] bed she will run away,” said pal Ana Rivera. “She is worse than Lindsay [Lohan] or Britney [Spears], no one can reach her. She’s going to have to be there for months and she could even be institutionalized for the rest of her life.”
Bynes’ legal woes are far from over. She is due back in a New York courtroom on Sept. 26 to answer charges from her bong-tossing incident last May.
