The Pursuit of Happyness
No one ever said the journey to success was easy. The good news? There is hope at the end of the tunnel, and The Pursuit of Happyness is proof of that. This movie depicts the real-life success story of entrepreneur Christopher Gardner. Before becoming a successful stockbroker, Gardner, played by Will Smith, finds himself and his son in and out of homeless shelters as he tries to build his career. Through ups and downs they stick together, and eventually Gardner succeeds, reminding us that even when times get rough, with determination and hard work we can achieve anything.
A League of Their Own
On the days when we feel discouraged and want to give up, A League of Their Own is a reminder that not only can we do what we put our minds to, but we can do it well. The movie takes place in the 1940s, during a time when only men were allowed to play professional sports. But when war threatens the future of Major League Baseball, the women are given the opportunity to shine. While the team faces stereotypes from the press, public and even the league itself, the women remain determined to show the world what they are made of, eventually proving their worth and paving the way for other women in sports.
The First Wives Club
You just got dumped — now what? This 1990s classic is the ultimate inspirational movie for lovers at odds. It’s the story of three successful women who, after years of helping their hubbies build empires, were kicked to the curb for younger, sexier women. Angry and hurt, the three women banded together to devise a plan to get back at their ex-lovers. Inspirational and funny, this movie is a reminder that no matter how hard the obstacles are, with great support around you, you can overcome them and come out a better and stronger person in the end.
Eat Pray Love
If you’ve ever questioned your purpose in life, Eat Pray Love is for you. After years of routine, Liz Gilbert, played by Julia Roberts, decides to take off on a year-long excursion in an effort to explore other cultures and continue on her path toward self-development. Through her journey we learn about enjoying life, not by purchasing material things and working all the time, but by finding what inspires us each day and appreciating the little things in life that we often forget to consider.
The Devil Wears Prada
Running errands, getting coffee, answering phones — new jobs aren’t always what we expect them to be. While we may get frustrated and want to quit, we are often reminded of why we are there in the first place. In The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway plays Andy Sachs, an aspiring journalist. As she embarks on her first job out of college, Sachs finds herself struggling, becoming frustrated and wanting to quit. It isn’t until she takes the times to really embrace the experience that her true talents begin to shine. Sachs shows us that even when the going gets tough, if we want something bad enough, it’s worth the hard work.
