INTERVIEW: Amanda Seyfried gets raw with Lovelace

Lovelace tells the story of one of the world’s biggest porn stars. Amanda Seyfried spoke to SheKnows about taking on the risque role of Linda Lovelace.

Amanda Seyfried puts her best foot forward in the raw and emotional biopic, Lovelace. She stars as the famous porn star (Linda), who’s best known for the adult film Deep Throat. When talking to SheKnows, Seyfried explained that Lovelace’s life was a series of unfortunate events, especially when it came to husband Chuck Traynor.

Amanda Seyfried stars as Linda Lovelace >>

“Linda was escaping one hell and entering another,” Seyfried said. “She was 20 or 21 when Chuck came into her life and it seemed like the ideal thing because she was coming from this repressed, strict, Catholic home and she didn’t have a good relationship with her mother. You make bad decisions because of love. We all do it. If we had the hindsight it would be different, but we don’t so I think it was pretty easy to relate to her in that way.”

Amanda Seyfried took Lovelace role “to be recognized” >>

When Seyfried took on the role, she knew sex scenes would be a major part of the job. But surprisingly, they weren’t as awkward as you’d think.

“You eventually get used to them,” she said. “I can now say I am used to them. They don’t scare me one bit, especially with Peter [Sarsgaard], he’s really open. It’s not a big deal to him. It’s not a big deal to me. The sex scenes were easy — funny kind of… The violent scenes are the ones that are really the challenge.”

In order to play Lovelace, Seyfried watched most of her films, including Deep Throat. We asked what she thought of it and her answer might surprise you.

Amanda Seyfried is now a porn expert after Lovelace role >>

“I thought it was boring. Deep Throat is boring. And knowing what I know about Linda’s experience on that set it wasn’t easy for me to see her in action… this movie, Lovelace, is way better.”

Lovelace opens in theaters Aug. 9.
