Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
This marriage has had its share of stress. Michael Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer, his adult son was sentenced to 10 years in prison and Catherine Zeta-Jones has been very open about being bipolar and seeking in-patient care for her condition. Those factors would be enough to rip any couple apart. While these two kept up appearances, we knew their marriage was in trouble when Douglas recently started popping off about getting throat cancer from HPV (via oral sex). By saying that, Douglas was either implying that his wife had HPV or that he’d been messing around. Either way, it’s not really the kind of thing a guy who wants to stay out of the doghouse says.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
Hmmm. What was it about this marriage that always seemed a bit off? That it started with Tom Cruise flipping out on Oprah Winfrey‘s couch? That Cruise has come off as a controlling and a few bricks short of a full load in interviews? That Katie Holmes looked absolutely miserable in 90 percent of the photos that were snapped of her? Cruise claimed to be blindsided when Holmes filed for divorce. But were the rest of us terribly surprised?

When the TheReal Housewives of Beverly Hills first premiered, many of us tuned in with rapt fascination to see the glamorous life of the rich and famous. What we learned was that these women, who seemingly have it all, are (generally speaking) a hot mess. If that’s living the high life, they can have it, right? Just as viewers weren’t terribly surprised when Kelsey Grammer dumped the high maintenance and icy Camille Grammer, no one was surprised when Adrienne Maloof and Paul Nassif finally put their marriage out of its misery. The way Adrienne demeaned Paul, treating her dog better than her husband and making him out to be a big dumb animal made many viewers uncomfortable.

Khloe Kardashian has spent months defending a marriage that we are now learning may have been riddled with drug problems. Before this, Khloe was beating off rumors that hubby Lamar Odom has been getting between the sheets with other women. Still, as sad as it is to say, is it terribly surprising when a Kardashian union hits the skids? Did any of us miss a beat when Kim Kardashian divorced hubby-of-72-days Kris Humphries? Would observers of Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick be terribly shocked if they went their separate ways? And is it wrong to say out loud that you may as well set a stopwatch for the demise of the Kris and Bruce Jenner union?
