Ed Sheeran thinks women want to “mother” him

Ed Sheeran is one of the nicest guys in showbiz, but he insists that his many adoring fans want to mother him and not date him.

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran seems like one of the nicest and most loving guys in showbiz, and his string of female best friends would certainly paint the same picture.

However, despite his fame, the singer doesn’t believe he is a sex symbol and doesn’t accept that women view him in that way either.

Sheeran told People magazine while at the MTV Video Music Awards, “I find the whole concept of women screaming at me so odd. It’s very flattering, but I don’t think I will ever consider myself to be a sex symbol.”

“If you speak to most women, they want to take me home and mother me rather than take me to bed. I just have that impression.”

Sheeran is firm friends with Taylor Swift. The pair have been spotted paddleboarding together, and there was speculation at one time that the two could be an item. He has also been linked to Selena Gomez, but now speculation has shifted to Ellie Goulding.

Sheeran, who is single, was seen getting close to Goulding at the MTV VMAs on Sunday night and the pair were pictured holding hands while watching the performances together.

However, Goulding was quick to dispel rumors, as she is rumored to be dating One Direction star Niall Horan — who is friends with Sheeran.

Horan and Goulding did nothing to help dispel their dating rumors, however, as they were reported to have been “flirting” at the VMAs, according to HollywoodLife.

In a post on her Twitter account, Goulding said, “I love that holding hands with my friends means we’re an item. In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef*** (sic)”
