Now that we know A’s identity on Pretty Little Liars — the show has assured us it’s for real — there are so many things we should have seen.
After watching Pretty Little Liars for four seasons, we should have known. Obviously, A couldn’t be a recently-introduced character and everyone else had already been accused, except for the liars themselves.
Warning: If you haven’t seen the midseason finale of Pretty Little Liars and don’t want spoilers, stop reading now.
Still, Ezra seemed too quaint and quiet to ever have such a temper. Now, looking back on it, there were definitely some red flags. Here are the most notable:
1. Ezra writes his As on the blackboard just like A does
In fact, the blackboard itself serves as quite the model for clues. In one scene, the words behind Ezra say, “But I was A.” In another episode, Ezra stands in front of the blackboard and blocks the letters so it spells, “the A.”

2. Ezra was really the only recurring character who hadn’t been accused
Think about it, Jenna had been accused. Mona had been accused. Even Ashley was accused. Aside from the liars themselves, Ezra was the only one who had somehow never made it onto the suspect list.
3. Nothing really bad ever happened to Aria
Emily (Shay Mitchell) had a car smash through her living room. Hanna (Ashley Benson) ended up in the hospital after being hit by a car back in Season 1, and her mom was accused of murder. Spencer (Troian Bellisario) goes crazy and ends up at Radley. She also has to deal with all that drama with her sister. Aria’s been in some stressful situations, but she’s oddly protected from the worst of it.

4. Ezra attends Alison’s funeral even though he isn’t supposed to know her
Sure, he could have played it off like he was just there to support the others, but he really had no business attending. Could he have been looking for Alison at her own funeral?
5. Marlene King said “Everything will be revealed in 3B”
When she said this during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it was assumed she meant Season 3, but 3B is actually Ezra’s apartment number.
6. Ezra has an A mug in Season 4 Episode 11
See the image above for the details. (The mug is right next to Aria’s right ear.) It’s just sitting right in frame. Why would Ezra have an A mug? It make no sense with any of his initials. Except if he was A, of course.

7. Ezra’s typewriter
A is known for the typewriter notes. This whole time, Ezra has mysteriously had a typewriter in his apartment. Sure, he’s artsy like that. Most of us didn’t even think twice about it being there. Now we know it’s all in the details.
8. A wanted the liars to destroy Jackie
As soon as Jackie started getting into Ezra’s business again, he sent the liars to destroy her. Why would A care about Jackie unless it was someone close to him?
9. Ezra freaked out on Emily
He started to feel the heat a few episodes ago. When Emily went to talk to him about her letter of recommendation, he snapped on her. It was the first glimpse of Ezra’s true colors we saw. Boy’s got a temper.

10. The Great Gatsby references
There have been too many to detail from images of the eyes to Aria (Lucy Hale) dressing up like Daisy. The real clue in the book is the author’s name: F. Scott Fitzgerald. The reference to Ezra’s name links him more tightly to the series in a way that should have been recognized.
11. All the whiskey
Ezra likes to drink whiskey and A has been seen multiple times with the drink. The liars, Jenna and Mona, aren’t old enough to buy it. It’s easy enough to brush off the presence of alcohol. Someone else could have purchased it. But, looking back, the repeated bottles of whiskey were a dead giveaway.
12. Everything started when Ezra began teaching in Rosewood
He arrived in town just when everything started to happen with A. Of course, it was the pilot episode so we didn’t think anything of it. Now we know we should have put two and two together.
