How to score tickets to the sold-out iHeartRadio Music Festival 2013

Bummed you didn’t snag a couple of tickets to this year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival before they sold out? Well perk up, because all hope is not lost just yet. Read our tips for scoring seats at the stellar music showcase.

Considering tickets to the iHeartRadio Music Festival sold out in minutes, chances are you actually tried to snag some but ended up empty-handed. But don’t lose all faith in humanity just yet — you could still wind up at MGM Grand in Las Vegas singing along to Katy Perry, Paul McCartney and more.

Your best shot? It’s all about your radio, baby! Here’s what you need to do, stat. First, head on over to the iHeartRadio Music Festival site. There, you’ll be able to plug in your ZIP code to bring up a list of radio stations near you that are participating in the giveaway contest.

For example, my ZIP code churns out four local stations. When I click on each respective icon, I am taken to an iHeartRadio giveaway page on the respective station’s site, which gives me a number to text the keyword to when — while listening to the station — I hear it mentioned. (The keyword isn’t specified… they give it to you on-air.)

So, what exactly are you running up your data rate to try to win? Well, should you prevail, iHeartRadio will fly you and a guest round-trip to Vegas for a two-day, three-night stay that includes tickets to the iHeartRadio Music Festival Village during the day on Saturday and to both nights of the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Uh, definitely worth the additional data charges you might incur from texting your local radio station a hundred (OK, a thousand) times.

If you still don’t have tickets to the festival by Sept. 15, you have a few options. Our recommendation? Go ahead and purchase tickets to the iHeartRadio Music Festival Village on Saturday. Spanning 15 acres on the Vegas Strip in an area known as “The Lot,” the Village offers some killer performances — think Jason Derulo, Awolnation, The Band Perry and more (like Miley, y’all!) — plus food and drink vendors, a Monster listening lounge, photo booths and all kinds of other fun stuff. Tickets are still available, at the moment, through Ticketmaster and other ticketing venues.

Not only will you then be enjoying some amazing entertainment, you’ll be close enough to take advantage of any last-minute giveaway opportunities. Last year, HAZE at Aria was the place to be on Thursday night — the club hosted the last chance to win tickets to the festival.

Other than that, my friends, you’ll need to be — in the immortal words of Bon Jovi — livin’ on a prayer. Good luck! And, hey, if you happen to win… bring me back a T-shirt.
