Yes, Diana was beloved by the world. She was the people’s princess and no doubt influenced her eldest son William’s choice in his own beautiful wife, Kate. But, deep down, she was just a regular gal looking for love. We can’t wait to see Naomi Watts‘ portrayal of the Princess of Wales, but in the meantime, see if you have any of these five traits in common with the Royal.

1) Child of divorce

Though Diana was born into the Spencer family, one of the oldest and most respected families in England, her parents divorced when she was just 8 years old. The death of her infant brother, John, no doubt put a strain on the marriage, but it was also her mother Frances’ affair that led to the break up of the family.

2) Not a great student

Diana first attended public school before attending an all-girls boarding school. She had trouble academically, though took an interest in music and dancing. She failed her O-levels (a test equivalent to an American high school diploma) twice! She was an accomplished pianist, however, and showed an early interest in community service.

3) Dreamed of being a ballerina

How many of us wore tutus when we were little girls, dreaming of dancing in Swan Lake? Diana was no different. She studied ballet but was devastated when she grew too tall for the art form that values petite ladies. The average of a professional ballerina is 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 8 inches. Diana was a svelte 5 feet 10 inches.

4) Worked as a nanny

While Diana didn’t excel in math or science, she was blessed with a gift for working with children. She spent her late teens as a nanny and preschool assistant honing skills that no doubt shaped her child-rearing techniques when she raised her sons William and Harry.

5) Had an extramarital affair

In the book Diana: Her True Story by Andrew Morton, it was revealed that the Princess of Wales had an affair with Major James Hewitt, a former cavalry officer in the British Army. Though many speculated that Hewitt was the true father of Harry due to his characteristic red hair, it has been confirmed that the affair did not begin until after the ginger prince was born.

Diana begins her cinematic reign on Nov. 1.
