Charlie Hunnam may not have wanted the fame that comes with a big role, but plenty of actors out there would. So who is the frontrunner this time?
With the very-coveted role of Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey now very open, it’s anyone’s guess who will fill the spot this time. British newspaper The Telegraph is the latest to throw their rumor into the hat, and says Irish model Jamie Dornan is the frontrunner for the role.
Dornan has appeared in ads for Dior, Armani and Calvin Klein along with A-listers like Eva Mendes and Kate Moss (and, by the way ladies, Dornan in that underwear-clad Calvin Klein ad is very worth googling). Although Dornan is married now, he was in a very high-profile relationship with Keira Knightley from 2003 to 2005.

The 31-year-old made the leap to acting in 2006, starring opposite Kirsten Dunst in Marie Antoinette. He also stars in the British series The Fall and as the huntsman in Once Upon A Time.
“I mean, [the huntsman] is a cool role to play,” Dornan told E! News earlier this year. “My only thing is that Chris Hemsworth is playing the Huntsman [in Snow White and the Huntsman] and he looks like a proper man. I look like, you know, a woman in drag.”
Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the role of Christian Grey after reportedly being overwhelmed by the pressure and fans of the series.
“He didn’t want the Robert Pattinson-esque attention that would come along with taking on this role,” a source said of Hunnam’s decision.
That career-changing decision has cast the spotlight on Dakota Johnson, who was hired to play opposite him in the film adaptation of the best-selling books. But it looks like the direction of planning for the film will now revolve around Johnson, rather than Hunnam.
Sigh… Ryan Gosling turned down Fifty Shades of Grey >>
“Multiple sources stress that the filmmakers will build the rest of the cast around [Johnson] rather than let the new Christian Grey dictate the ensemble,” The Wrap said.
Dornan faces some tough competition for the role, with names like Alexander Skarsgård, Theo James and Christian Cooke also reportedly in contention.
