It may have been just a summer romance, because six weeks after they got together, Nina Dobrev and Derek Hough have already called it quits.
In normal-people time, a six-week relationship may be the shortest ever. But in Hollywood time, it’s possible it’s about average. That’s how long Derek Hough and Nina Dobrevwere dating, but it looks like they’ve already called it quits. The couple was seen out together for the first time at Universal Studios on Oct. 5, but were reportedly dating weeks before.
But just a few weeks after that first appearance, and Dobrev and Hough apparently felt the relationship had “played itself out,” a source told Us Weekly.

The two stars had the issue of distance to deal with, too. Dobrev films The Vampire Diaries in Atlanta, and Hough is in LA while filming Dancing With the Stars.
“The distance was too much to handle,” another source said.
Dobrev may have been on the rebound from splitting from Ian Somerhalder after three years. She and Hough reportedly met because she’s friends with Derek’s sister, Julianne, “then she fell for him,” Us Weekly said.
“Derek is smitten with Nina,” a source said at the time. “He said he hasn’t felt this way for a girl in a long time. Everyone approves!”
The relationship appears to have been very short, but it doesn’t seem to have affected Dobrev’s relationship with Julianne Hough.
“Julianne understands, there are no hard feelings,” another source said.

Derek Hough recently won an Emmy Award for his role on DWTS, a big accomplishment for the dancer. Back in September he spoke about being excited for the new season.
“It’s going to have some challenges, but it’s fun,” he said. “Amber is a great partner. She has a great personality, great performance and charisma so I think it’s going to be a fun season.”
