Scarlett Johansson believes porn can be “productive

Scarlett Johansson never thought much about porn’s place in society before her film Don Jon, but now she says that dealing with the issue in the film helped her better understand how couples should relate to each other.

Scarlett Johansson‘s latest film Don Jon received very mixed reviews. The film, written by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, follows a porn addict as he begins dating a new woman. When the woman discovers his addiction, she doesn’t handle it well.

The actress spoke with Marie Claire UK about the controversial medium and said porn does have its place in society, although she is sure she would react the same way her character in the movie did.

“If I found out my boyfriend watched that much porn, I would be totally flabbergasted, for sure,” Johansson told the magazine.

The actress, who was once again named the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire, admits she doesn’t think much about porn, but she does think it has its place.

“I’m sure I should have some very well-developed view on [porn’s] effect on society, the ethics behind it and how it affects the kind of relationship between men and women and how it objectifies women,” she said, according to the Huffington Post. “But I don’t really think about it. I think porn, like anything else, can be enjoyed. It can be productive for both men and women.”

Johansson was engaged to Romain Dauriac back in September, and she relates to her role in Don Jon because it’s all about learning to accept things about the person you love.

“I can certainly relate to this habit of wanting your partner to just kind of fit into this mold you’ve made for them,” she explained. “We do place pressure on somebody to just do it the way we think it should be done. It takes a lot of growth and searching to understand that it is the differences in relationships that enrich and strengthen the relationship, that help us evolve as people and partners. I understand that conviction; I know that is something I am guilty of.”

Scarlett Johansson will next appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and will soon begin filming the sequel to The Avengers.
