INTERVIEW: Chris Pratt gained 60 pounds for Delivery Man

Chris Pratt packed on the pounds for his role in this new film that also stars Vince Vaughn. How’d he do it? He claims 25 pounds was sympathy weight from when his wife, Anna Faris, was pregnant. SheKnows sat down with him to find out how he gained the rest.

SheKnows: I heard you had to put on 60 pounds. I’m sure everyone is asking you about it, so how’d you do it? Because I want to know — I love eating.

Chris Pratt: The way you put on 60 pounds is… well, the way I did it, the first 20 pounds was sympathy weight because my wife was pregnant. I was gaining weight as she was gaining weight. It’s a phenomenon — it happens to a lot of men. They eat the same things their wife is eating, or I don’t know what it is. So I gained about 25 of it like that, and the other 35 I did just by declaring that I was going to do it. I said, “I’m going to gain weight for this movie.” And then, so my rule of thumb became: If it’s there, eat it. And then I would order two entrees at every meal. I would always have dessert, and I would drink the darkest beer on the menu.

SK: Oh, gosh, now I know. There you have it, everyone. What was it like working with Vince Vaughn?

CP:  Vince is great. He’s really funny, he’s whip-smart and he’s a great leader. He makes sure that the train is moving forward. At times, he can be no-nonsense, and at other times, he can be cutting it up and making everybody around him laugh. He’s great with his fans. He’s been a star for a long time, and he handles it with class. I like him a lot.

SK: You are a staple character on Parks and Recreation, and you’re hilarious in Delivery Man. Do you prefer working in television series or in movies?

CP: I don’t know. They’re both so different, and there’s benefits to both. One thing I like about TV is the security of staying home. I can shoot here in L.A., like Parks and Rec shoots here in L.A., and it takes me 10 minutes to get to work. It’s nine months out of the year that I’m going to be here. I have a kid and wife, and it’s nice to have some stability. It’s a pretty rootless existence being an actor. Like gypsies and circus performers, we’re just rolling through towns.
