PHOTOS: How celebrities decorate their homes for the holidays

When it comes to celebrities, you’d think mere boughs of holly just wouldn’t do when decking their halls. But surprisingly, many stars take a decidedly low-key approach to decorating their homes for Christmas.

Though it may be grand in its towering stature, Denise Richards‘ Christmas evergreen doesn’t feel stuffy or pretentious. Rather, the classic multicolored string of lights and box of bright ornaments on the floor suggest a hint of nostalgia — perhaps Richards hopes to gift daughters Sam, Lola and baby Eloise with the charm and coziness of Christmases past.

Mario Lopez

Well now here’s an approach to holiday decorating we haven’t seen before! Mario Lopez‘s wife Courtney captured her hubby cheekily placing a star atop their Christmas tree, with a little help from their then-2-year-old daughter Gia. And — disclaimer: this is a wildly inappropriate thing to say — we’d trade in all of our Christmas loot to stand in her tiny shoes in that moment.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is known for a lot of things, particularly her scandalous behavior as of late. But she’s also a big sis, which is a role she clearly relishes during the holidays. Here, she and Noah Cyrus pose in super-snuggly PJs — Miley in a Santa hat and leopard print, natch! — in front of their family’s modest but sweet little Christmas tree.

Eva Longoria

Is Eva Longoria‘s tree really tall? Or is the actress simply really short? Eh, we’ll call it a draw and say it’s a bit of both. Either way, she wasn’t having any luck trying to position her pint-sized pup Jinxy as a treetop ornament. Despite that setback, we love her traditional tree color scheme set against the backdrop of luxurious, icy blue and gold floor-to-ceiling draperies.

Bethenny Frankel

Ever one to buck the trends, Skinny Girl mogul Bethenny Frankel opted for a tree of a different color for her little family last year. And, while we’re all for a white Christmas, we can’t say we’re totally in love with her alabaster choice. Call us purists, but it just doesn’t feel like Christmas unless you’ve got a fresh Douglas fir in your living room.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi has come a long way since her days of drunken fist-pumping on Jersey Shore in tacky, too-tight mini-dresses. For baby Lorenzo’s first Christmas last year, she and husband Jionni LaValle injected some serious sophistication into their home with swanky Christmas decor including gold swag and velvet ribbon.
