Award season is upon us, and the studios are blessing our cinemas with what are most likely the best movies of the year. Check out these must-see movies.
1. Wild

Wild, based on the true story by Cheryl Strayed, could be this year’s Eat, Pray, Love.Reese Witherspoon goes on an 1,100-mile hike to heal herself emotionally and physically. Talk about a challenging adventure.

2. Exodus: Gods and Kings

From Ridley Scott, the director of Gladiator, comes the Biblical battle between defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) and the Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton). This film also stars Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley.
Exodus: Gods and Kings rules the theater on Dec. 12.

3.The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Many of us are sad to see the last of the Hobbit films hit theaters, but we know the finale will lift up our souls as Bilbo (Martin Freeman) takes down the deadly dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).
The Hobbit shares his final magic on Dec. 17.
4. The Interview

This trailer alone has everyone giggling except the ruler of North Korea, Kim Jong Un. Seth Rogen and wacky James Franco star as actors turned assassins in what might be the silliest movie of the year.
The Interview crosses the DMZ on Dec. 24.
5. Into the Woods

Johnny Depp as the Big Bad Wolf? Anna Kendrick as Cinderella? Meryl Streep as The Witch? This movie could have the best cast of the year. One thing that has us really excited is seeing The Good Wife‘s Christine Baranski as Cinderella’s evil stepmother.

6. Selma

Oprah’s Harpo Films brings us the powerful story of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo). Selma will no doubt be nominated for Best Picture and may even win if the performances are as strong as the story.
Selma fights for civil rights in a limited release on Christmas Day and expands on Jan. 9.
7. Unbroken

Angelina Jolie directs another powerful true story, this time about Olympian Louis Zamperini (Jack O’Connell), who tragically becomes a prisoner of war in World War II. We have a feeling this is going to be a tearjerker.
