Katy Perry faced an emotional and dark time following her split from ex-husband Russell Brand, but the singer has revealed what helped her get through it all.
Katy Perry has made no secret of the fact that she was devastated after her split from comedian ex-husband Russell Brand in December 2011, which came after just 14 months of marriage.
This is not the first time the “Roar” hit maker has spoken out about the emotional place and dark thoughts she faced during that time.
However, the star managed to claw her way back to the top with the help of a total detox and some comedy in the form of the hit series Absolutely Fabulous.
Perry appeared on the chat show Alan Carr: Chatty Man on Thursday to reveal just how she got through her heartbreak.
When host Carr asked the “Teenage Dream” singer what she does to pick herself up, she responded, “I do a couple of the hot toddies and a box set of Ab Fab [Absolutely Fabulous]… I love a bit of Patsy.”
“You know I did a lot of different things. I surrounded myself with my good friends, I did this whole cleanse where I didn’t have any of the alcohol for three months — that was devastating — I did vitamins and supplements, and hikes and meditation and prayer.”
Revealing how her latest album Prism also helped on the road to recovery, the “Firework” singer revealed: “It’s a record of me going inside, and a lot of self reflection and figuring out like, where can I make areas of myself better, or what responsibility can I take?”
“Rather than pointing the finger and saying, ‘you’re the problem’ or ‘you’re the reason for all my problems’ or ‘you’re awful; my life is awful’, I go ‘OK how can I fix this?’ So yeah, it was not fun.”
We are glad to hear Perry is in such a good place now and happy with her new beau John Mayer. She may be able to laugh about her heartbreak and the knock to her confidence now, but it was not always so easy.
Perry revealed, “Yeah it’s fun to laugh at it now, it wasn’t fun to laugh at it then. You know, I was going through a period where a lot of negative thoughts were entering my mind, obviously they did not succeed, but I had my confidence kind of beaten down.”
