CLIP: Chris Pine gets roughed up in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Jack Ryan has no idea what he’s gotten himself into. In this extended clip from Shadow Recruit, the young analyst is thrown into the spy world.

Paramount Pictures has released a sneak peek at this month’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. The film is a reboot of the long-running Jack Ryan franchise, which ended with 2002’s The Sum of All Fears. Star Trekstar Chris Pine is tackling the role and embracing the character’s humble beginnings.

TRAILER: Chris Pine‘s Jack Ryan is a Shadow Recruit >>

In Shadow Recruit, Ryan is a CIA analyst — nothing more, nothing less. But after a deadly confrontation with an assassin, he’s declared operational. That means he’s an active agent in the field, one who’ll deal with criminals on an international level.

In the following scene, an unsuspecting Ryan is checking in to a luxury hotel. He’s aided by a man who looks like a colleague. Yet we quickly find out the stranger has ulterior motives. Once he and Ryan are alone in the room, bullets start flying. Ryan’s life is in danger, and he has to neutralize the threat.

This footage appears to be from the beginning of the movie. It’s when Ryan gets his first taste of action. He eventually meets up with his handler, Harper, who’s played by a stoic Kevin Costner. He tells Ryan about his first kill and how to deal with it. Essentially, death is a part of their jobs and there’s no way of escaping it.
