Jillian Michaels to shake things up before 40th birthday

Jillian Michaels is determined to get into tip-top shape before her 40th birthday arrives. It’s time to maximize this fitness guru’s life!

Jillian Michaels‘ milestone birthday means it’s time to ramp up her own workouts. Looking forward to her Feb. 18 celebration, the no-pain-no-gain personal trainer is shaking up her own workout routine in order to get results.

“I’m trying to get into the best shape of my life for 40,” the The Biggest Loser trainer and mother of two said during a recent interview.

“Usually, I’ll do one boxing session, one yoga session, two resistance sessions a week,” the 39-year-old, seen here with partner Heidi Rhoades and their two children in December, said of her own workout plan. “I’ll also work out with friends and then once a week I’ll go for a jog.”

Michaels, who is set to embark on a “Maximize Your Life” Tour in March, likes to get results through a variety of techniques.

“I don’t lock into one type of exercise,” she explained. “I change the workout every month, so you never adapt and never plateau.”

Although she’s tough as nails, Michaels has challenge areas too. She went on to share, “For example, I’ve never been flexible so I’m not able to just pop into splits. But the more I take care of my body the more I progress.”

Don’t expect Michaels’ upcoming birthday to soften her in any way, because it seems years of personal training on television has only affirmed the gruff guru’s approach works.

“The reality is, I’m not a sympathetic person. Sympathy to me is an agreement that you are sad and sorry and (can’t do it),” Michaels explained of her no-frills personality. “I’m empathetic. I get it. It’s hard. It sucks. But I also know that you can do it.”

“I could take somebody that is a second away from having a heart attack and in four months I can have them running a marathon,” she added. “That’s amazing. I would never have thought that was possible 10 years ago.”
