Kit Harington’s on a mission for love in his latest film, Pompeii. The actor talks with SheKnows about romantic gestures both on- and offscreen.

Kit Harington’s been making women swoon since 2011, when he debuted on HBO’s Game of Thrones. On the show, he plays the young, naive but brave soldier Jon Snow. The actor has the rare ability to balance brutality and torment with love and compassion. That’s why Harington was the perfect choice for the lead in Pompeii.

The film centers on Milo (Harington), a slave-turned-gladiator who’s on a quest to save the love of his life, Cassia (Emily Browning). Unfortunately, he’ll have to battle the most powerful man in Pompeii for her affections. Cassia’s current suitor is a corrupt Roman senator played by Kiefer Sutherland. Milo and Cassia’s relationship is very pure but also intense. Despite their different backgrounds, it was love at first sight.

SheKnows asked Harington if he believes in that type of instant connection.
“I think there’s a certain romanticism in this movie that has been lost in certain movies along the way. There’s something about a glance across a room that’s very sexy and very romantic,” he explained. Compared to the salacious nature of Game of Thrones, Harington saw it as a welcome change of pace.

“There’s that connection without the two people instantly jumping into bed together,” he said. “I think it’s far more interesting to watch.” We agree with Harington. There’s nothing wrong with some old-school courtship.
Pompeii opens in theaters Feb. 21.
