Benedict Cumberbatch in Frozen 2? The writers reveal the actors they’d want

SheKnows has Frozen 2 on the brain. We asked directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck about a possible sequel and its dream cast.

Disney’s Frozen was both a commercial and critical success. The film has grossed over $1 billion worldwide and recently won Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Original Song. The creators are still basking in the glow of its achievements, but we’re already looking toward the future.

If Disney green-lit a Frozen sequel, who would star? SheKnows asked co-directors and writers Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck about a new team of actors. “I saw at the Oscar thing, I saw Jamie Foxx. I think he’d be good,” revealed Lee. “We’ve gotta get him in. Benedict Cumberbatch, he’d be good. Melissa McCarthy.”

Buck agreed with Lee’s suggestions and took it a step further. “You know who would be a really fun one?” he asked. “Matthew McConaughey. He’d be a great animated character.” That’s a great choice. McConaughey is a stand out in any form — animated or otherwise.

“Judi Dench. She’s amazing,” continued Buck. “I love her. She’s an amazing actress. But she did do a Disney film recently.” Dame Judi Dench would be a great get. If anything could lure her back to another Disney movie, it would be Frozen 2.

Out of this bunch, Cumberbatch may be their best bet. The British actor is no stranger to voice acting. He did voice work and motion capture for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. He’s also starred in several BBC Radio dramas and narrated countless Jaguar car commercials. His voice is a gold mine.

Frozen is available on DVD and Blu-ray March 18.
