Selena Gomez has had her fair share of problems, and the world was shocked when she checked into the Dawn at the Meadows treatment facility in Arizona in January to “spend time on herself.”
After going through a very public breakup with on-again-off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber and an intense work schedule, the “Come & Get It” singer just needed to take a break.
But Gomez’s problems have made her stronger, and she let fans know she can relate to them when she delivered a very real and inspirational eight-minute speech on Wednesday at the We Day California event held at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
“I’m surrounded by people who are supposed to guide me and some of them have and others haven’t,” she revealed, according to the Daily Mail. “They pressure me: “You gotta be sexy, you gotta be cute, you gotta be nice, you gotta be all these things.”

”You can all relate. You all have pressure that you have to deal with every day — with school, with work, with friends, with parents, with family. They tell me what to wear, how to look, what I should say, how I should be.”
”Until recently I had given into that pressure, I lost sight of who I was. I listened to opinions of people, and I tried to change who I am because I thought others would accept me for it. And I realized I don’t know how to be anything but myself,” she confessed.
Gomez has practically grown up in the public eye, but in many ways, she is just a regular young woman who understands the pressures of everyday life and knows how easy it is to lose sight of who you really are.
Many young adults often feel overwhelmed by their lives and for someone as influential and successful as Gomez to be able to identify with them sends a very powerful and positive message.
