Rebekah is gone but not forgotten on The Originals, by us at least. Marcel, on the other hand, just may be ready for a new leading lady. Get a look at next week’s new episode.

The Originals took a nice little hiatus a few weeks ago, and next Tuesday will finally mark the return of the show, which is winding down on its first season. It’s hard to believe the season finale will premiere on May 13, which is only about a month away.
Given that we’ve had a couple of weeks to reflect on the past few episodes, we just have one thing to say: We miss Rebekah (Claire Holt).
Fantasy gets another year! The CW announces early renewals >>
And we’re not alone. The internet is still talking about her exit from The Originals. We keep hoping that she’ll realize she misses the show just as much as it misses her and announce a Season 2 return. While the show is still fantastic and worth every single minute spent watching, it also feels not entirely complete. Rebekah’s story can’t be over.
Thankfully, Holt seems to agree. “As far as I’m concerned, this is a temporary hiatus,” the actress explained during The Originals‘ panel at PaleyFest this year. “I do realize that I’m so not ready to let go of the Mikaelsons, so I hope there are many more stories to tell.”
In the meantime, we have to hope that Hayley’s (Phoebe Tonkin) snark is enough to carry us through. So far, we haven’t been disappointed, and it seems like a trend the show intends on sticking to. She can be seen arguing with Elijah (Daniel Gillies) again in the promo, after all. That’s quickly becoming her MO.
Hiss all you want: Caroline & Klaus’ love is eternal >>
“Don’t trust them. Any of them,” Elijah says in the sneak peek above. Is he referring to Klaus (Joseph Morgan) or the werewolves? We kind of think he’s talking about the werewolves. It’s no secret Klaus can’t be trusted. And Hayley’s known it for a while. If they were talking about Klaus, Hayley would be the one telling Elijah to watch his back. Because it’s the other way around, we think something is going down with the wolves in Episode 18. Especially after the last episode where Jackson was only too eager to strike a deal with the vampires.
Another factor that is doing wonders to help us cope with Rebekah’s exit is Davina’s return to the show. She’s a little spitfire in her own right. And she seems to play a vital role in the upcoming episode. The official synopsis tells us, “At the Feast of the Blessings, Monique and Genevieve try to use the ceremony to teach Davina a lesson, but Klaus intervenes and gives Davina a surprisingly important gift.” We wonder if this will cause a rift in his little hookup sessions with Genevieve.
Meanwhile, Marcel is up to scheming himself. According to the synopsis, “Marcel lets Thierry in on his plan to rebuild his power, but Diego has his own ideas about the future.”
Sounds like there’s about to be a rumble.
There’s still no word on Cami’s role in all the supernatural craziness around the city. Unless something happens and quickly, her character will become pretty obsolete in the grand scheme of the show. We can’t really see her and Marcel making it last. But, hey, Rebekah is gone now.
Season 1 Episode 18 of The Originals called “The Big Uneasy” will premiere April 15 on The CW.
