How do you promote a free coffee at McDonalds? Hire famous employees. That’s exactly what the fast food franchise did this week to promote their new event, “Make Friends With McCafé.”

The national campaign offers guests a free cup of coffee during breakfast hours at any local McDonald’s through to April 13. To get everyone excited about the promotion, the company brought on TV personalities Ross Mathews and Wendy Williams to surprise morning commuters in Los Angeles who hit their drive-thru window on Monday.

Williams greeted her customers with her signature phrase, “How you doin’?” before they ordered their food. Mathews was recognized almost instantaneously by almost every drive-thru guest as he went to collect their money at the register. The E! host was even greeted with a few “wows” by unsuspecting McDonald’s clients who weren’t expecting a famous face at the fast food joint.

Williams did a great job of making one woman feel great so early in the morning by commenting, “Look how glamorous you are!”

It looks like the two celebs had fun with the event, with Mathews enthusiastically exclaiming, “I’m giving away coffee!”

The promotion also didn’t stop fans from making it a social media moment by whipping out their smartphones to take selfies to post to Instagram and Twitter. This is probably the only time they will see two talk show hosts working at McDonald’s.
