Who’s hotter? Stephen Amell vs. Colton Haynes

These hunky heroes both make us want to play the damsel in distress, but who prevails when we pit the Arrow co-stars against each other to see who’s hotter?

Stephen Amell

Born May 8, 1981, in Toronto, Canadian cutie Stephen Amell caught the acting bug in his teens. Following his first role of note as the Liberty Ride spinning instructor in Queer as Folk, he had minor roles in Degrassi: The Next Generation, Tilt,Closing the Ring and more before landing parts on popular series like The Vampire Diaries (2010), New Girl (2011) and Private Practice (2012). He got his big break, though, in January 2012 when he was cast in his current role as the title character in the CW superhero series, Arrow.

Colton Haynes

Colton Lee Haynes was born on July 13, 1988, to William Clayton and Dana Denise Mitchell, whom Haynes describes as “free-spirited hippies.” One of five siblings, Haynes moved around throughout his youth, attending high schools in Kansas, Florida and Texas. At 15, he began modeling for Abercrombie & Fitch while living in New York City. Upon moving to Los Angeles, Haynes kicked off his acting career, landing choice roles in The Gates (2010) and Teen Wolf (2011). In 2012, he was cast as Roy Harper opposite Amell in Arrow.

Talent

Stephen Amell: Since landing his first role of note in 2004, Amell has enjoyed a steady stream of bit parts on TV series like Beautiful People, CSI: Miami and Hung, as well as meatier parts in made-for-TV movies, such as Justice for Natalee Holloway. In addition to being a talented actor, Amell is a bit of a fitness buff — as a matter of fact, when he landed his role in Queer as Folk as a spinning instructor, he actually was a spinning instructor.

Colton Haynes: In the relatively short time Haynes has been acting (since 2007), the young entertainer has picked up quite a few parts. He enjoyed bit parts on TV shows like CSI: Miami and Pushing Daisies, before landing a recurring role in 2010 series The Gates and Look. He’s most known for his two latest roles — Jackson in Teen Wolf and Roy Harper in Arrow. Haynes also still models, most recently starring in Victoria Justice’s music video for “Gold.”

Trivia

Stephen Amell:

  • 1. He’s “completely overly competitive” and says the thought of somebody else playing Oliver Queen makes him “want to smash that head through the table.”
  • 2. Good looks run in the family — his cousin is The Tomorrow People‘s Robbie Amell.
  • 3. Growing up, he attended an all-boys private school in Aurora, Ontario.

Colton Haynes:

  • 1. He was considered for the role of Edward Cullen in Twilight before Robert Pattinson was cast.
  • 2. In high school, he was nominated for prom king and was voted most likely to be famous.
  • 3. He has a wall in his house dubbed “The Great Wall of Positivity,” on which he writes all of his positive thoughts.

Fitness

Stephen Amell: Have you seen Arrow? This guy is seriously ripped. “First you have to be faced with the prospect of being shirtless in front of millions of people on television,” he revealed of his motivation for maintaining his chiseled physique. “It’s a very particular and paralyzing type of fear, so that in and of itself works up your metabolism. Second, I get to carry around an infant all the time. Good for arms. Really good for arms.”

Colton Haynes: Being a model pretty much makes being in shape a prerequisite for Haynes, but he’s also an active, athletic guy in general. Now that his character has been promoted to series regular, looming shirtless scenes have Haynes kicking his workout routine into high gear. “I used to do a lot of yoga, but I tend to lose a lot of weight when I do that,” he told Us Weekly. “Now I’m just trying to lift as many weights as I can.”

Kindness

Stephen Amell: A vocal proponent of cancer research, Amell is an active supporter of the F*** Cancer campaign, even hosting a F*** Cancer party last year. While promoting Arrow at press events, he has been seen proudly sporting a breast cancer ribbon given to him by his mother.

Colton Haynes: Haynes definitely did some stepping out for charity last year, attending events like the 2013 Coach Evening of Cocktails and Shopping To Benefit the Children’s Defense Fund. He also stripped down (just to the waist, ladies!) with his Teen Wolf pals, Tyler Posey, Tyler Hoechlin and Max and Charlie Carver, for a photo shoot for Reflect It Back, a charity campaign aimed at raising money for various charities.

Intelligence

Stephen Amell: Amell, who attended St. Andrew’s College, is a bit of a self-professed word nerd. “I like vocabulary and I actually read a book called Word Freak, which is about a guy who basically went into competitive Scrabble for a year,” he explained. “But having a big vocabulary and being good at Scrabble are not the same thing.”

Colton Haynes: Haynes attended Navarre High School in Florida, Andale High School in Kansas and graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in Texas.

Commitment

Stephen Amell: Sorry, ladies… this hunk’s officially off the market. On Christmas Day in 2012, Amell married actress and model Cassandra Jean in a private Caribbean ceremony. The couple enjoyed a stateside wedding in New Orleans in May of 2013 and, in October of 2013, they welcomed their daughter, Mavi Alexandra Amell, into their lives.

Colton Haynes: Although linked in the past to his pretty Teen Wolf co-star, Holland Roden, Haynes is currently rumored to be dating his Arrow co-star, Willa Holland (are we sensing a theme? Co-stars? And the name Holland?).
