Excited for the return of Cory and Topanga to Girl Meets World? We are, too. Especially now that we know what’s ahead.
SheKnows caught up with Girl Meets World and Boy Meets World stars, Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, on the Radio Disney Music Awards red carpet and we got to chat with them about their iconic roles and what lies ahead for their new show and BMW spinoff, Girl Meets World. Even after all these years, the two are super bonded and have great chemistry together, which should help with the continuity between the two shows. They’re promising plenty of familiar faces, tons of surprises and a show that won’t let down their old-school fans.

First and foremost, Savage was quick to promise plenty of guest appearances from familiar faces.
“You will see Mr. Feeny,” Savage shared. “You’ll see a lot of returning cast members. More to come.”
Savage and Fishel and, more importantly, Cory and Topanga, are still loved by millions of people who grew up in the ’90s and tuned into Boy Meets World every week. They’re practically icons, which made us wonder if their level of superstardom had led them to any strange fan encounters. Savage loves his fans too much to call them strange, but it seems the whole obsession is still pretty surreal to the actor.
“We have excited fans who grew up with the show. They’re passionate about the show and they’re happy,” Savage explained. “So, now that we’re doing Girl Meets World, it’s interesting because we have a lot of — most of our audience — because we tape in front of a live audience, are people that grew up with us. So, it’s a weird, interesting mix of 11-13-year-olds and then 28-year-olds shoving them out of the way so that they can watch us. So, I don’t want to say strange, but we have very committed and passionate fans and we like having them.”

Fishel was quick to point out that calling them ’90s icons still didn’t feel quite normal to her, though.
“I don’t know. I still find it surprising,” Fishel told us. “I don’t think someone telling you you’re iconic ever really registers. Maybe for some people it does and maybe that’s why some people end up with big heads. But, I really don’t think either one of us think of ourselves that way.”
“Except my license plate says ‘Icon,'” Savage teased. “C+T=Iconic.”
Their characters are iconic, though. Even if they don’t necessarily like the word, a scroll through just about any Tumblr account will eventually land you on a picture of their characters and a sweet caption about Cory and Topanga’s seemingly-perfect love and relationship. Because of how much fans love that couple, many people are concerned that the spinoff could never live up to the original. Savage promised they’re trying not to disappoint anyone, though.
“To all the Boy Meets World fans, everyone is in for a lot of surprises,” Savage said. Adding, “And don’t worry. We hear our fans’ concerns that they want the show to live up to the original and we’re working very hard to make sure that it does.”
The passion Savage and Fishel have for the show and their characters is obvious, as is the love they have for one another. While chatting with them, it was hard not to see just how well they mesh together after all these years. Fishel even admitted that Savage was the main reason she agreed to give Girl Meets World a go.
“I was really excited about it. More than anything, I looked forward to working with Ben again,” Fishel said. “I mean, Ben and I are quite a pair, onscreen and off. And I love working with him, he makes everything fun. And he makes me excited to come to work every day, so that’s what I was excited about.”
They certainly are a pair! We can’t wait to see them together again, and watch how they tackle a whole new set of challenges in life on Girl Meets World.
