Jaime King got involved with Toms’ shoes event One Day Without Shoes and hopes to better the lives of children all over the world.
Jaime King has proven she is a SheKnows “Hollywood Humanitarian” by partnering with Toms shoes to help make a difference in the lives of impoverished children. The Heart of Dixie actress took part in the company’s One Day Without Shoes on Tuesday, April 29.

“As a new mother, I don’t want to see any children, anywhere on this planet, without shoes,” King told SheKnows. “Shoes are so much more important than just a fashion accessory. It has to do with education, it has to do with health, it has to do with empowerment.”
Once a year, founder Blake Mycoskie and the rest of the Toms company challenge everyone to go a day without shoes at the annual One Day Without Shoes event to raise global awareness about children’s health and education. This year, the event took place on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California.
“When children don’t have shoes, there are so many diseases that they get, which then prevent them from going to school, which ends up 62 percent of the time, which obviously prevents them from being empowered,” King said. “I just don’t feel like that should really be. I feel like Toms is an incredible company for supporting these kinds of initiatives.”
King joins the likes of “Hollywood Humanitarians” Tim Gunn and Josh Duhamel, who are also involved in philanthropic efforts near and dear to their own hearts. Gunn is helping to fight illiteracy through the Give a Book, Get a Book campaign, and Duhamel has teamed up with Advil for the Advil Relief in Action campaign that has been formed in hopes of “encouraging people to get out in their own communities and volunteer,” the actor said.
“The way that people can get involved with this is they can go onto the Toms website, and they have a lot of different partners that they work with,” the mother of 7-month-old James said. “So if they look at the Toms website and check out the other partners, they can see a lot of ways that they can get involved with the initiative. And also anything that they can do on social media: tweeting, Facebooking about the event and what the purpose is and reading about why they are doing this. That is the best way to also spread the word as well.”
You can visit the Toms website at www.Toms.com to learn more about giving the gift of shoes, sight and water to children in need.
King is also involved in an organization called Baby to Baby, which is run by friend and Hollywood power mom Jessica Alba. Baby to Baby is active in donating diapers, clothing and baby items to people who wouldn’t otherwise have access to the necessary things to keep their family healthy.
“I live such a blessed life that after having a son I can provide food and clothing and shelter for him, like to not do anything that I can to give back to other children is just sort of a travesty to me,” King said.
