Every music festival in the country, mapped

Music is awesome, right? Live music, though, is even better. Add in a festival vibe and a chance to spend an entire day (or three) catching all your favorite bands and it really can’t get any better. Try these festival experiences on for size.

Whether you wear those cowboy boots ironically or for realzies, there’s a music festival for you. We firmly believe that whether you’re in skinny jeans or drop-crotch pants, you can enjoy a day in the sunshine, surrounded by sweaty new friends. Whatever kind of music is “your jam,” we live in a country hosting festivals that span the summer and into fall. Pick the closest (or the farthest), pack a cooler and go party.

Pop

If you thrive off whatever Top 40 radio throws at you, we have a few (dozen) fests to serve as your new Mecca. Bonnaroo might be the biggest, but Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware is pulling in some fairly big names this year. Can you say Foo Fighters? They’ve also scored The Lumineers, Outkast and Imagine Dragons. That’s a fairly diverse lineup.

EDM

EDM is making a serious comeback in popular music and we couldn’t be more excited. Nearly all the Pop and Rock festivals are hosting silent discos or DJ sets. However, if you don’t want to share your glowstick stash with a bunch of newbs, Lightning in a Bottle in Silverado, California is the place to go. Among the headliners: Moby and Phantogram. See you there?

Rock

Ready to rock? While we’re sure you’re bummed you missed Coachella, fear not. There are plenty more amped-up fests to dive into this summer. Our favorite? Bunbury Music Festival in Cincinnati. If you’ve repeatedly caught yourself singing along to “My Song Knows What You Did In The Dark” (Fall Out Boy) or “Ain’t it Fun” (Paramore), this is the place to be. Oh, yeah. The Flaming Lips will be there, too.

Ready for a summer of fun? We certainly are. Enjoy the music and remember to stay hydrated. (Yes, your mom paid us to say that.)

Country

You don’t have to live in Nashville to get in on good country music. The CMA Music Festival is awesome and everything, but Kansas’s Country Stampede is offering up some awesome performers, too. In 2014, they’re hosting Luke Bryan (yum), Eric Church and Joe Diffie — who had a successful career long before Jason Aldean sang about him.
