Jon Hamm is one of the most desirable men in Hollywood, and his acting career has gone from strength to strength, but the Mad Men star was not always at the top of his game.
Many stars have admitted that on their journey to stardom they have taken less than desirable jobs to pay the bills, and Hamm is no exception. The 43-year-old actor recently opened up to Vanity Fair magazine about his job as a set dresser on soft-core porn movie sets.
Hamm’s past came back to bite him when his 1996 role in The Big Date resurfaced, and the actor admitted that careerwise it was not his finest moment.
“I was actually at that time working as a set dresser for Cinemax soft-core-porn movies. It was soul-crushing,” Hamm admitted.
And perhaps the career struggles that Hamm had in the past have made him even more appreciative of what he has achieved today. “This is the best job I’ve ever had and maybe ever will have in my life — it’s so fun to play all of this,” the actor gushed about portraying Don Draper in the hit seriesMad Men.
“It can be relentlessly dark. It can be terribly sexually inappropriate, is a way to say it,” he told the magazine. “But who else gets a chance to do any of that stuff? There’s so much there.”
And Hamm’s role in AMC series Mad Men is so valued that he already knows what happens at the end of the series. According to USA Today, creator Matt Weiner has already told Hamm of the future developments.
“He’s the first, outside the writers’ room. I try stuff out on him. When we get stuck in the writers’ room, I go down there and have a conversation with him,” Weiner said.
