It’s that time of year again, folks — the time that TV viewers have come to both dread and look forward to all year long. This is when fans find out if their favorite shows have made the cut and earned another season. For those lucky enough to love TV shows that have been getting huge ratings, the news may not be a surprise. But for those fans whose shows have lived with less-than-stellar ratings, news of a renewal can be cause for celebration. Did your favorite new show get a second season? Did the show you’ve loved for years get another round? Read on to find out.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. review: Some weaknesses are strengths >>

On the list of new shows that earned a second season is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This series ran the gamut in its first season, starting out with hype worthy of a blockbuster but quickly fizzling out as fans became disenchanted with the show and demanded more. Well, more is what ABC delivered, and the second half of the season saw renewed interest from fans that undoubtedly led to the show’s renewal.

NBC’s The Blacklist came out of the gate to massive fan love and big ratings, earning the show an early renewal. Another new series, Chicago P.D., took a little longer to find the ratings it needed before getting its second season.

The CW cancels Star-Crossed, The Tomorrow People, The Carrie Diaries >>

As for CBS, a lot of new shows stumbled in their first seasons, and nearly all floundered under low ratings and so-so viewer acceptance. Not many of CBS’s new shows have earned a second season, which doesn’t bode well for any of them.

Fox and The CW had better luck with their new shows, with Sleepy Hollow, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The 100, Reign and The Originals all earning second seasons.
