The anniversary of Cory Monteith‘s death is coming up in July, but his loved ones remembered him on Mother’s Day — a holiday that would have been his 32nd birthday.
The anniversary of Cory Monteith‘s death is fast approaching, but his loved ones remembered him this Mother’s Day, because it would have been his 32nd birthday. Girlfriend Lea Michele remembered the actor on Twitter, posting a black and white photo of the couple.

Monteith died in July 2013 from an overdose of heroin and alcohol, and he was later found in a Vancouver hotel room. Michele and Cory Monteith dated on and off for years, and she helped him through many of his drug problems. She has spoken about his life and death, saying that she considered him her “true love.”

“He was not his addiction — unfortunately, it won. But that wasn’t who he was,” she told Seventeen back in April. “Cory made me feel like a queen every day. From the minute he said ‘I’m your boyfriend,’ I loved every day, and I thank him for being the best boyfriend and making me feel so beautiful.”
Michele’s new album is also filled with memories of Monteith, and her song “If You Say So” is a tribute to the actor.
“I found myself picking and writing these songs that were very emotional and dramatic,” the actress said. “Louder has songs that express extreme love and some pain. I look at it and think, ‘That was my year.’ I didn’t record any songs I didn’t completely relate to.”

Louder was released on March 4, because Michele wants to remind herself that no matter what happens, she will march forth.
“I try my best to march forth and live my life as best as I can for me,” she explained. “I also feel an incredibly happy responsibility to keep the memory and light of [Cory, who] was the most amazing person. I’m so happy to make it my journey now to continue on and live my life as best as I can.”
Monteith’s mom, Ann McGregor, also tweeted about her son on Friday.
