Dancing with the Stars‘ Mark Ballas is super-bummed about his shoulder injury, but could not be more proud of his dance partner Candace Cameron Bure for excelling this week.
It was a little bit of a tough week. Thank you to everyone asking about my shoulder — I really appreciate your support and checking in. My shoulder feels OK — not awesome, but it’s OK. I had everything checked out, and will do a follow-up later this week. But as of right now, I’m going to continue on to the finals with Candace.

That being said, I’m very proud of Candace considering she had such a rough week as well. I was really surprised at the quickstep and the freestyle scores. I thought she was definitely going to take a higher score for the freestyle, not the quickstep. I thought that the fact that she’s the only one in the competition with zero experience — she’s not an athlete, she’s not an Olympian and she’s not a touring artist or musician — that she did extremely well under the pressure. I’m just very proud to make it to the finals.

I had to sit out Sunday’s rehearsals because of my shoulder, but watching from the sidelines I was really proud of Candace and her attitude. I’m really grateful to Artem Chigvintsev for stepping up; he was great with Candace, and really coached her with the quickstep. I was just so happy he was there, and Cheryl came and helped out, which was awesome. So, that definitely helped me while I was getting my shoulder checked out. It would be a real shame to have to do any surgery, as I had surgery on my left shoulder six years ago. I definitely don’t want to go down that road again. I’m trying to be safe, and take all the correct precautions to avoid doing any further damage. I’ll have another MRI at the end of the week to double-check that everything is all right.
Overall, I’m just really happy and proud of all that Candace has accomplished. It’s been a great season, and we’re looking forward to the finals.
Make sure to tune in to ABC tonight at 9/8c for the finale.
Until next time,
Mark Ballas
