LeVar Burton is overwhelmed by the support so many have shown to his Kickstarter campaign to bring Reading Rainbow back. Watch as the star tears up after the cash rolls in.
LeVar Burton is suffering from a case of happy tears, brought on by everyone who has generously shown his Reading RainbowKickstarter campaign support.
Over 65,000 people have pitched in dollars in varying amounts to help his dream of bringing the show back and encouraging a love of reading in all kids become a reality. As of Friday afternoon, with over a month still to go for contributions to come in, the campaign has exceeded its original goal and is nearing $3 million in funds.

“I am overwhelmed. Thank you so much, this is going to enable us to really, really, really do a lot of good,” the 57-year-old Roots actor says with tears in his eyes and a trembling voice.
“I am so proud that this community has come together to support this effort, and it’s a people’s thing, it’s the $5, it’s the $10, it’s the $25, it’s the $1 pledges, it’s unbelievable — or actually it’s very believable. Thank you so much. We are literally changing the world one children’s book at a time. God bless.”
Due to the incredible support they’ve found, the Reading Rainbow campaign has adjusted its goal.
“We’ve just announced our first STRETCH GOAL,” an announcement posted to Kickstarter on Friday explains. “With your help, we can go TWICE as high, raising $5 million, and get onto all of the major platforms AND get free access to more than 7,500 classrooms.”
