The former Saturday Night Live star and current 30 Rock actor was en route to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was scheduled to perform a show in his Turn It Funny stand-up comedy tour, when the limo bus he was riding in overturned.
The crash took place on the New Jersey Turnpike around 1 a.m. near Cranbury Township and involved the bus, two tractor-trailers, a sport utility vehicle and two other vehicles.
“The limo bus was the only vehicle that overturned,” state police spokesperson Gregory Williams told CNN, according to the Chicago Tribune. “Looks like one of the tractor-trailers rear-ended the limo bus, but that’s preliminary at this time.” Police also said that alcohol is not believed to be involved in the crash, but the accident is still under investigation.
One other passenger in the limo bus was killed and six more were injured. Morgan was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he was admitted to intensive care, Williams said.
Morgan celebrated the birth of his first daughter, Maven Sonae Morgan, with fiancée Megan Wollover less than a year ago. He is also father to three grown sons from his first marriage: Tracy, 27, Malcolm, 26, and Gitrid, 22.
In the past year, vehicular accidents took the lives of two other talented men in the entertainment industry. The Fast and the Furious franchise star Paul Walker was killed in a single-car crash in November. Michael Gottlieb, an ’80s icon and the director of Mannequin, perished just two weeks ago in a motorcycle accident.
We are keeping Morgan and his loved ones in our thoughts and hoping for a quick and full recovery.
