Miss Nevada crowned Miss USA, can totally kick your butt

The 63rd Miss USA winner has been crowned, and it’s Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez. And she’s not just another pretty face. She’s also a real tough cookie and a fourth-degree black belt.

Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez was crowned Miss USA 2014 on Sunday night following the three-hour competition held at the Baton Rouge Civic Center in Louisiana. There’s no doubt the 24-year-old beauty is unbelievably thrilled with her win — after beating out 50 other stunning women — as she took the crown from the 2013 winner Erin Brady of South Glastonbury, Connecticut.

And Sanchez is not just a pretty face; she’s also a real tough cookie and a fourth-degree black belt in the Korean martial art of taekwondo. The 2014 Miss USA competition had some tough competition itself — with runners-up including Miss Georgia Tiana Griggs, Miss Iowa Carlyn Bradarich, Miss Florida Brittany Oldehoff, Miss Louisiana Brittany Guidry and first runner-up Miss North Dakota Audra Mari.

Apart from being stunningly beautiful, Sanchez proved she was a deserving winner of the title of Miss USA when she responded to judge Rumer Willis’ question — daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore — about the sexual violence that exists on college campuses.

“I believe that some colleges may potentially be afraid of having a bad reputation, and that would be a reason it could be swept under the rug, because they don’t want that to come out into the public,” Sanchez said.

“But I think more awareness is very important so women can learn how to protect themselves,” she continued. “Myself, as a fourth-degree black belt, I learned from a young age that you need to be confident and be able to defend yourself. And I think that’s something that we should start to really implement for a lot of women.”
