Pretty Little Liars review: There’s no way [spoiler] is A

We definitely call a decoy in our midst on the Pretty Little Liars Season 5 premiere. There is no way A is going down that easily.

In true Pretty Little Liars fashion, the Season 5 premiere definitely didn’t hold back on revealing answers. Those answers just added a few dozen more questions. With so many twists we’re walking in circles, this episode made us feel like the secrets we think we know, may just be scratching the surface.

QUIZ: Are you a hard-core Pretty Little Liars fan? >>

WARNING: Spoilers below. Do not continue reading unless you want to know all of the drama on the Season 5 premiere.

  • ICYMI last week…
  • The girls travel to New York to meet with Ali, who is with none other than Noel Kahn.
  • Ali tells the story of the night she disappeared. Jessica DiLaurentis buried her daughter.
  • After showing up to save the day, Ezra is shot in the scuffle thanks to the masked assailant we assume is A.

Twist #1: Shana is A

Ezra (Ian Harding) wakes up from surgery just in time to whisper to Aria (Lucy Hale) that Shana is in fact the one who is after Alison (Sasha Pieterse). We don’t exactly know what he whispers, other than it’s enough to spur Aria to action. She finds the girls at the Fitzgerald Theater and knocks Shana over the head with the butt of a rifle before Shana can shoot Alison. Shana falls to the ground, hits her head on the music stand and dies.

The big revelation: Shana was in love with Jenna, which is why she’s so determined to kill Ali. Though, it’s important to note, Jenna has no idea about Shana’s crazy justice mission. We think, most likely, Shana is just some sort of decoy for the real Uber-A. There’s no way the real A goes down that easily.

As if Aria didn’t have enough issues after last season, now she can add killing someone to her list of reasons she needs extensive therapy. Wise counselor Spencer (Troian Bellisario) tells her she didn’t have a choice, but that’s not going to make it all just go away.

Twist #2: Melissa’s got a secret

Melissa knows something that is really giving her a hard time, and we think it has something to do with the girl who was buried in Ali’s place.

Whatever secret Melissa is keeping, it won’t be coming to light if Mr. Hastings has anything to say about it. Though Melissa’s ready for a good solid confessional, Mr. Hastings doesn’t want the truth getting out. We have no idea why he wouldn’t want to exonerate Spencer, unless he’s protecting another member of his family, aka his son, Jason DiLaurentis. Maybe Dad feels bad for neglecting his son after all these years and is hiding Jason’s secrets in order to make up for lost time.

Twist #3: Mona starts the “I Hate Ali” club

Lucas is back, and he’s suddenly buddy-buddy with Mona (Janel Parrish). Since when did the couples get all weird? First Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty) and Alison are secret BFFs for a reason we still don’t understand, and now Lucas and Mona are heading up a club together. At least this time, we understand the common ground: Mona and Lucas do not want Alison back in the fold. If she comes back to Rosewood for real, their lives go back to being miserable in their minds.

The two gather the other kids Alison made fun of in the past including Paige, who isn’t so keen on the Ali bashing. Still, she’s stopped dead in her tracks by Melissa, who arrives at the club’s meeting and tells the members they don’t have much time. (Much time to stop Alison from returning?)

Is Mona back to being the villain this season on Pretty Little Liars? Do you think Shana was really Uber-A?
