VIDEO: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum on condoms, capris and backgammon

SheKnows chats with 22 Jump Street stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill about the secret to a successful sequel and their must-have items for any spring break.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill already knew what you were thinking when you heard they were making a sequel to 2012’s mega-blockbuster 21 Jump Street, so they took that notion and splattered it all over the film, making it even funnier this time around. Seriously, it’s just as good. In the spirit of celebrating 22 Jump Street‘s silly shenanigans, SheKnows sat down with the dynamic duo to chat about the secret to a successful sequel and their must-have items for any spring break.

Hill, who co-wrote the script alongside Michael Bacall, explained that he and the team pondered how they were going to create a follow-up to the film that simply didn’t suck. “All sequels are so much worse,” he admitted, before revealing their tactic to “put that idea into the movie and call it out.”

“It’s something we ended up finding really funny and interesting in making the sequel is trying to be aware that we’re making a sequel,” Hill said.

It’s just one of the awesome ways Tatum and Hill tackle their roles as officers Jenko and Schmidt, who are assigned to go undercover as college students to bust a drug deal. And as for their oh-so-natural chemistry, the men agreed that they really got lucky with each other. “You generally like people’s work and then you want to work with them, and then it’s a crap shoot if you guys actually get along in real life with the cameras off,” Tatum said. Let’s just call their pairing fate.

Since 22 Jump Street tackles many aspects of college life, including nonstop partying, Tatum and Hill made sure that the film’s spring break scene was outrageous as ever. But if you want to have as great a time as the dynamic duo had in the film, they’ve got some suggestions for must-have items.

While Channing offered a safe sex tip (“Condoms are good!”), Hill advised bringing sunscreen with a vigorous SPF 50. “I usually bring a good pair of capris with me,” he suggested before unveiling his getaway game of backgammon. “We thought we were going to spring break for the first time, and we were totally the old guys at the party for sure,” Hill said with a laugh.
22 Jump Street hits theaters on June 13.
