Harrison Ford sustains ankle injury on Star Wars set

The Millennium Falcon got the best of Han Solo. Harrison Ford is injured on the set of the latest Star Wars film.

The return of the original cast of Star Wars for the latest film in the franchise, Star Wars: Episode VII, has been one of the most highly anticipated moments in sci-fi. Unfortunately, one of the stars was injured on the London set.

Harrison Ford was hospitalized on Wednesday after receiving a bad injury to his ankle while filming. According to a Hollywood Reporter source, a hydraulic door on the Millennium Falcon fell down and accidentally hit the 71-year-old actor. The spacecraft is the vehicle his character, Han Solo, has piloted since the original film in 1977.

Ford was airlifted to the hospital and the ankle is being attended to for a possible fracture.

Disney said in a statement, “He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care.”

Filming is expected to continue without Ford while he is treated for his injury. The source of the injury has Star Wars fans buzzing since director J.J. Abrams posted a photo regarding the presence of the Millennium Falcon in the film.

On June 4, he posted a photo on Twitter with a message, “I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VII and making ridiculous claims that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie.”

However, any super-fan would know that the note is resting on a holochess board from the spacecraft.

The movie, which is set 30 years after Return of the Jedi, also has cast original stars Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill alongside newcomers Adam Driver, Lupita N’yongo and Gwendoline Christie.

The film is slated to be released on Dec. 18, 2015.
