The two were married at a church in Greenville, Tennessee, and the reception was held afterward at Perry’s parents’ home nearby. Plenty of celebs were in attendance, including Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher.
J.P. Arencibia, a catcher for the Texas Rangers, was a fan of Perry’s before they ever met. He worked his way backstage at a 2012 concert in Florida and introduced himself. They were engaged back in October 2013.
He proposed to Perry at the same place they held their reception.
“I came back out on the front porch and he was standing there and he got down on one knee,” Perry said of the proposal. “It was perfect.”
Arencibia also treasured the moment and later shared it with ESPN, saying, “We had it set up that the family was sitting there and I was going to show up at the bottom of the hill and have her see me and have me walk up. They’re a close family and I wanted them there.”
“I saw that and I thought, ‘This is really happening,'” Perry said of her surprise when she showed up at her parents’ house.
