She followed up with a second tweet to confirm that she has now in fact seen a diamond, referring to the lyrics “I’ve never seen a diamond in the flesh / I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies / And I’m not proud of my address / In a torn-up town, no postcode envy,” from her hit single.

Lorde‘s mother and father, who are a poet and civil engineer respectively, according to Us Magazine, obviously did an amazing job raising their daughter regardless of their own marital status. The singer has shown signs of maturity beyond her years since suddenly shooting to stardom. In March, she took to Twitter to denounce some photos of herself that had been obviously Photoshopped and wanted to make sure her impressionable fans know that it’s OK to be imperfect. “There’s a lot of importance placed on physical perfection in this industry, and I wish my favourite stars didn’t look perfect,” Lorde wrote in a previous Tumblr post. “I think fans (me included) have these feelings of worthlessness, like they’ll never be as pretty/talented/whatever, as a result of this intense Photoshop culture and the endless strive for perfection.”

The talented musician, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, has also previously stated that her solid upbringing is what helps her maintain normalcy while participating in the crazy world of the entertainment industry. “I’ll never go off the rails like Britney (Spears), or do an Amy (Winehouse), because my upbringing was so normal,” she told The Sun back in November 2013. “I can’t touch alcohol at my age, and I’m not even sure I want to when I’m older.”
Congrats to O’Connor and Yelich on the engagement and for raising such a talented, level-headed daughter!
