The Duchess of Cambridge dug into her family history, visiting the site of a World War II code-breaking center where her late grandmother worked.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge visited a secret World War II intelligence center where her late grandmother worked as a code breaker, saving untold Allied lives and helping decipher the intelligence that led to victory on D-Day.
Kate’s paternal grandmother Valerie Glassborow and her twin sister Mary were among the civilians who worked at the top-secret Bletchley Park, feeding false trails to the Germans and helping break the codes of interrupted enemy communications.

Seventy years later, Kate visited the newly restored site where she learned about the code breakers’ service and how her late grandmother contributed to the war effort.
After the war, Glassborow married Peter Middleton, who eventually became Kate’s paternal grandfather. She died in 2006 without ever speaking publicly of her service.
Clarence House tweeted and Instagrammed the Duchess’ visit with lots of great photos.
