Frances Bean Cobain condemns Lana Del Rey’s death wish

Frances Bean Cobain is speaking out against Lana Del Rey‘s apparent death wish, and it’s really ticking off the singer’s fans.

Frances Bean Cobain knows all too well what happens when a young, talented musician leaves this world too soon. Her father, Nirvana front man and ’90s grunge poster boy Kurt Cobain killed himself 20 years ago after a battle with drug abuse and depression — and the daughter of rock royalty says death is nothing to glamorize.

In a Twitter post that has since been deleted, Cobain responded to an apparent death wish singer Lana Del Rey expressed in a recent interview, writing, “I’ll never know my father because he died young, and it becomes a desirable feat because people like you think it’s ‘cool.’ Well, it’s f***ing not. Embrace life, because you only get one life. The people you mentioned wasted that life. Don’t be one of those people. You’re too talented to waste it away.”

After being attacked by a legion of Del Rey’s fans for speaking her mind, Cobain clarified her stance.

“I’m not attacking anyone,” she wrote. “I have no animosity towards Lana. I was just trying to put things in perspective from personal experience.”

Cobain’s diatribe was in response to an interview Del Rey gave to The Guardian, in which she said, “I don’t want to have to keep doing this, but I am… That’s just how I feel. If it wasn’t that way, then I wouldn’t say it. I would be scared if I knew [death] was coming, but…” and trailed off.

The singer, who is also totally bored by feminism, later recanted her statement, saying that the interviewer from The Guardian was asking “leading questions about death and persona” and twisted her words.

“I regret trusting The Guardian,” she wrote. “I didn’t want to do an interview, but the journalist was persistent. [He] was masked as a fan, but was hiding sinister ambitions and angles. Maybe he’s actually the boring one looking for something interesting to write about.”

Del Rey has not commented on Cobain’s statement.
