Queen Elizabeth has her own throne, thank you very much — and she would prefer not to sit her royal bottom upon one that brings nothing but misery to its occupants.
Queen Elizabeth is in the midst of an official visit to Northern Ireland and took an afternoon to tour the Belfast set of Game of Thrones — but there is one throne even she won’t sit on.
The queen toured the set of the hit show, met the cast and was escorted through the custom-made armory of the wildly popular show, but when they came upon the penultimate set piece, the monarch declined to have a seat.

It’s probably better that way, considering the fates that have befallen those who have ruled from the ominous perch.
According to the plotline of the books and show, the Iron Throne was constructed from the 1,000 swords surrendered by the enemies of Aegon I Targaryen, full of spikes, twisted metal and jagged edges — not exactly comfy. The site of the Iron Throne was also the scene of the murders of kings Maegor I Targaryen and Aerys II Targaryen, the executions of Rickard and Brandon Stark and the poisoning of Joffrey I Baratheon at his wedding feast. Not exactly a lucky seat.
The queen and Prince Philip are on a three-day visit to Northern Ireland, meeting with the Deputy Leader Martin McGuinness for the third time since 2012 and rebuilding relations between the two nations after decades of violent turmoil.
