Amy Adams was caught being awesome today when an ESPN journalist noticed her giving up her first-class seat to an American soldier.
Amy Adams pulled a first-class move today, giving up her coveted legroom in a cushy front-of-the-plane seat (free drinks, people!) to an American soldier in uniform.
The American Hustle star noticed the serviceman at the gate and quietly spoke to an agent to arrange the switch. She took his place in coach.
ESPN Numbers Never Lie cohost Jemele Hill noticed what was happening and tweeted what she saw — otherwise Adams’ kind gesture probably never would have seen the light of day.

“When we were waiting to board, I saw her glance the soldier’s way and then she said something to the person she was traveling with,” Hill explained in an email to Today.com. “Once we boarded, I saw she was in first class. I was upgraded to first class and she was a couple rows behind me. I think she must have said something to the flight attendant, because before we took off she had vacated her seat and the flight attendant brought the soldier to her seat.”
“I just thought it was incredibly classy and thoughtful,” Hill said. “I already was a fan of hers, but now I’m a bigger one after today.”

That Adams would make such a move is not a huge surprise considering her background: Her father was a U.S. serviceman and the actress was born on an American military base in Italy.
UPDATE: Adams has given a short statement on the matter, deflecting the attention to where she meant it to go.
“I didn’t do it for attention for myself,” she told Inside Edition. “I did it for attention for the troops.”
