Brad Pitt and his five-man crew go up against 300 Nazi soldiers in new film.
Columbia has just released the first trailer for David Ayers’ WWII tank movie Fury, starring Brad Pitt as a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy whose every line is totally quotable.
Obviously Ayers is a fan of the war film genre, with impressive cinematic panoramas and eye-catching battle sequences evident in the trailer. He’s also crafted some iconically quotable dialogue for his actors. If the trailer is any indication, we’re pretty sure audiences will be talking about — and quoting from — this movie long after they leave the theater.
Brad Pitt didn’t think he’d ever win an Oscar >>
Fury is set at the end of World War II. Pitt’s character, Wardaddy, is in command of a Sherman tank and its five-man crew as they proceed on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
The old-fashioned war drama features an impressive supporting cast, including Shia LeBeouf, Michael Pena, Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) and Scott Eastwood.
The movie opens in November, but you don’t have to wait till then to get a dose of Pitt’s unforgettable dialogue.
The glass is half-full…

Unless you’re serving on Wardaddy’s tank team during WWII. Then the glass is totally, depressingly half-empty… and likely to be smashed to smithereens at any moment.
Oh, are you getting tired? Well…

Wardaddy is seriously intense, and apparently, not one for coddling. We’re pretty sure that this less-than-uplifting speech is being delivered to newbie soldier Ellison (played by Lerman). But can you really blame a man who’s been killing Germans for years — on multiple continents — for telling it like it is?
Sounds like Yoda, he does

If Yoda was a commander in this war. And had better syntax. The line sounds like something you’d read on a bumper sticker or a fortune cookie, it’s just so incredibly on point.
Is Wardaddy a fatalist?

This line seems to point to Wardaddy’s underlying philosophical moorings. Fatalists believe events are fixed in advance and that human beings are powerless to change them. Maybe this helps explain why he and his crew have survived the war so long… but what does that mean for the fate of the Fury crew when the odds are so heavily stacked against them? Will the men be powerless against their own fate?

Never give up

From the trailer, we know that Wardaddy and his crew, all on their lonesome, must face off against 300 Nazi soldiers. But Wardaddy isn’t one to waver. Faced with these knee-shaking odds, Wardaddy offers up the memorable words, “We ain’t never run before. Why we gonna run now?”
Will the wall of 300 German soldiers be the wave that finally defeats Fury’s crew? Or will this band of five dedicated soldiers rise victorious from what is sure to be an epic final battle?
Looks like we’ll have to wait a few more months — with bated breath — to find out.
Fury opens in theaters November 14.
