Pippa Middleton made an impact on the world during her sister’s wedding, and her life has never been the same. She opened up to Matt Lauer in her first TV interview.
Pippa Middleton was launched onto the world stage at her sister’s wedding to the future king of England. And while her life seems all glamour, the famous little sister is finally opening up about that wedding and what it meant to her.
Is Pippa Middleton engaged… for real this time? >>
“It sounds funny to say, but we saw it as just a family wedding. And actually, I didn’t realize, perhaps, the scale of it until afterwards,” she told Matt Lauer of Prince William and sister Kate Middleton‘s wedding in April 2011. “We all took on the roles as any family would.”
“Even sort of walking through the Abbey, there were a lot of people,” she continued, according to Vanity Fair. “I didn’t see any TV cameras, so to me, it was just performing in front of a few people, not necessarily the whole world.”
Middleton added that it was a “surreal” moment for her that helped her realize who her sister was about to become. She said, “You don’t know if you’re living it through yourself at that moment. When we saw crowds rushing around to the balcony, I sort of thought, ‘Wow, this is really special.'”
Pippa became famous that day, but so did a certain part of her — her posterior.
“It was completely unexpected,” she said. “You know, I think the plan was not really for it to be a significant dress, really just to sort of blend in with the train.”

“I suppose it’s flattering,” she said, but added that it was “embarrassing.” But that doesn’t mean she got rid of the dress as soon as the ceremony was over. She said it is “actually still in my wardrobe at home. I haven’t worn it since. But I think I’ll just keep it there. I think it’s the sort of thing that I’m sure I’ll bring out if someone wanted to see it or my children one day want to see it. Then I’ll show them.”
The second part of Middleton’s interview with Lauer will air on the Today Show on Tuesday, July 1.
