Tuesday was an unusual day on the set of Good Morning America. A homeless man attempted to assault correspondent Michael Strahan.
Tuesday morning was a scary day at the Good Morning America studios in New York City. A homeless man wielding a knife showed up at the ABC studios in Times Square looking to “kill Michael Strahan.”
The New York Post reported that suspect Andre Johnson argued with security on the outdoor set and pulled out a knife during the heated discussion.

A NYPD officer assigned to protect the outdoor shooting location was able to subdue the man and remove the weapon from his hand.
Johnson told the police, “I was there to kill Michael Strahan.”
The suspect gave no reason for wanting to harm the TV personality, but Strahan is new to the GMA team. He recently joined as a part-time correspondent on the morning show while still continuing his duties on Live! with Kelly and Michael.
A source told the periodical that the former NFL player was unaware of the situation until he was informed later that day.

An ABC News spokesperson said, “It was a scary situation but thanks to the fast actions of [the] NYPD the situation was quickly under control.”
No one in the outdoor studio audience was in harm’s way during the tense situation since the officer handled the event so swiftly.
Johnson was charged on Tuesday with attempted assault as a felony as well as menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. He also has out-of-state warrants, so is currently being held without bail.
