Last night, Marvel offered an exclusive sneak-peek screening of their upcoming flick Guardians of the Galaxy. The 17-minute IMAX 3-D first look started with an introduction from director, James Gunn. “Bigger is most certainly better,” he assured the sneak peek attendees.
Zoe Saldana dishes on alien fashion for Guardians >>
We have to agree. Few films have ever truly pulled off the 3-D experience, and from the first impression of Guardians of the Galaxy, it just might buck the trend. Every scene was beautifully shot with vivid colors and just the right amount of 3-D that it didn’t feel overwhelming.
The clip starts by introducing us to each of the characters, who are indoctrinated into their new prison while Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” plays in the background.
There’s Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who seems to be the awkwardly hilarious one who somehow falls into the leadership role. And the first look clearly wanted to ensure audience members fully appreciated all of Pratt’s hard work for the film by getting him shirtless, of course. Let’s just say he has obviously been putting in the effort. His chiseled physique is something that should be shown off.
Lee Pace will terrorize in Guardians of the Galaxy >>
Gamora (Zoe Saldana) enters as the kick a**, independent female, who just might have a soft spot for the hottie that is Pratt’s Peter. The two can be seen almost kissing in a scene toward the end of the first look.
Then there’s Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel, who is like an alien tree version of Hodor from Game of Thrones. All he seems capable of saying is, “I’m Groot,” but that doesn’t mean he slacks in the brawn department by any means. He’s just not that smart while doing it.
Our personal favorite character based on the sneak peek is Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), who is the brains of the operation. Don’t be fooled by his size. This little guy means business.
Let’s go! Guardians of the Galaxy begins production >>
Finally, Drax the Destroyer enters the scene as the noble one who doesn’t understand jokes because he takes everything literally. “It’ll just go over his head,” Rocket explains, to which Drax responds that nothing gets over his head because his reflexes are too fast.
The clip walks us through a scene at the beginning of the film where our hero characters escape from a galactic prison thanks to a series of fortunate events, just as much as it is thanks to a clever plan.
After the scene is shown, the first look montages through other moments in the movie, much like a trailer, and the preview is over, though we definitely were not ready for it to end. The movie had us laughing multiple times throughout the preview and promises witty dialogue throughout to keep the action and plot line from being cheesy or overdone. It’s gonna be a good time and we can’t wait.
Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on Aug. 1.
