There’s a lot of room at the table right now and it looks like The View is making a spot for Rosie O’Donnell to return to the show. Right now, only Whoopi Goldberg is employed by ABC after the recent departures of Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy.
According to TMZ, ABC executives and O’Donnell’s management team are discussing the terms of the contract. If they can find a salary that works for both sides, then the TV personality will definitely come back to the daytime talk show.

The deal appears to be far along and an announcement could be made as early as Wednesday if they can seal the deal.
By adding O’Donnell back to the Hot Topics table, it is sure to draw attention to a show that has suffered declining ratings in the past few seasons. The comedian left the show in 2007 after a heated debate with former co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck. With the retirement of Barbara Walters last May, The View needs some resuscitation.

There have been many names mentioned as possible replacements for McCarthy and Shepherd, including two gay male hosts, Mario Cantone and Ross Mathews. TMZ’s sources say the show is also seeking “a conservative female with a strong, smart point of view.” A few names for that slot include CNN contributor Margaret Hoover and Abby Huntsman, an MSNBC host for The Cycle.
ABC is feeling the pressure as rumors circle around the show. A network spokesperson told TVNewser on Tuesday, “At this time, we have no announcement to make and we are weeks away from making any type of announcement about anything pertaining to the show.”
No matter when the announcement comes, it is sure to be a new view on The View in the fall.
