Beyoncé secretly gave $7 million to Houston’s homeless

Beyoncé has proved that she can keep a secret — she released an album before anyone knew she was even working on an album. But some secrets should be shared, and the singer’s generosity is one of them.

Throughout the years, Beyoncé has apparently given more than $7 million to the Knowles-Temenos Place apartments in Houston. According to KHOU 11 News, the singer, who is using her fame and fortune for good, launched the apartment complex in 2007 to help victims of Hurricane Katrina — but since then, it has become so much more.

According to the TV station, the apartment complex helps men and women get off the street. It also provides meals, job training and HIV/AIDS screenings. According to the Huffington Post, the point of the apartments is to help its residents become self-sufficient.

“She’s an incredible human being,” Rev. Rudy Rasmus, who married Beyoncé and Jay Z, told KHOU. “[She] has an incredible heart and has been extremely helpful in our mission and our ministry here.”

Rasmus helped uncover Beyoncé’s charitable act and has worked with her to fight homelessness in her hometown in the past.

The apartment complex is just a small step in Houston’s fight to end homelessness. Marilyn Brown, CEO of the Coalition for the Homeless in Houston, said, “Houston is leading the charge to end chronic homelessness. Our success as part of the 100,000 Homes Campaign proves that permanent housing coupled with support services works.”

Beyoncé has been operating the shelter for seven years with no major media coverage about her charitable act, so it’s possible she won’t comment now that the public knows what she has done for the city.
