Love triangles are just plain tricky. Lines get blurred and the right thing to do isn’t always the right thing to do. It’s a game that Karrueche Tran knows all too well. As the on-and-off girlfriend to Chris Brown, Tran talks about the downside to stepping into a celebrity love triangle during an interview with Keke Palmer for her new BET talk show, Just Keke.
“I’ve never dated a celebrity before so it was very new to me — paparazzi and all that,” Tran tells Palmer during the interview, which will air in its entirety on Wednesday, July 16. “And then, even the situation with Rihanna, you know the reason why people tuned into this so much was because it’s relatable.” Tran says she has plenty of girlfriends, and even family members, who have all experienced the case of the ex.

Surely, her experience is vastly different than that of her close ones since her triangle ends and begins with two of the biggest singers out right now, but she already knows that. “In this case, my boyfriend is a celebrity whose ex-girlfriend is an even bigger celebrity… so, not only am I fighting a battle with her, I’m fighting a battle with her 14 million fans or whoever else,” Tran confesses. “So, imagine how that feels for me when I gotta get on Twitter and I see a whole bunch of stuff… they make up all kinds of crazy stuff and it’s, like, they know nothing about me. But you know, because they know nothing about me, because I stay so mute sometimes, that leaves open space for them to say whatever they want.”
On top of dealing with Rihanna and Brown’s legal demons, Tran held back tears when admitting that the biggest obstacle of the entire situation was the “the heartbreak because it was a real situation.”
